Welcome in to Beast the Odds. Back and better than ever for Super Bowl 51. What an amazing season. It all comes down to this Sunday when we will crown and new champion of the football universe. In our last post we predicted the NFC Championship game blowout accurately, almost down to the actual score. Hopefully you were following along and were able to make some nice change off the pick. This year’s Super Bowl Pick is solid Gold. This weekend will be the last opportunity we have to place our hard earned money on an NFL game for the next 6 months. Do not miss out on this chance to ride off into the sunset with a monster payday. Lets take a look at the game.
The Brain Trust
Here we go again. Brady and Belechick are back in the Super Bowl for the 7th time. Yes a record seventh time. Brady and Belechick have shattered every possible player/coach record imaginable and have their sights set on winning an unprecedented 5th super both together. To be honest it is getting a little sickening listening to all the talking heads gushing about Belechick being the best NFL coach ever. He has had arguably the greatest quarterback of all time riding shotgun for all of his winning years. By no means am I questioning how good of a coach he is, but pump the breaks a little. Keep in mind, this duo has already been beat in 2 Super Bowls. The true greats do not lose in the big moments, see Joe Montana and Michael Jordan. Yes, that was a dig at Lebron James as well.
Defense Wins Championships
Defense Wins Championships has been the go to line for so many years. When you look at the previous 10 Super Bowls, defense heavy teams have had their way. The New England Patriots enter this years Super Bowl with the #1 scoring defense in the league. The Patriots allowed just 15.6 points per game, 2 points better per game than the next closest team. If you are looking for a weakness in this defense, you are not going to find one. I poured over the stats and this team is at worst Top 8 in every single stat you can find. However, Super Bowls do not always follow the scoring trends. The Super Bowl has only had a combined score under 48, twice in the last eight seasons. Keep in mind the top defense in the league has been in each of those games.
Super Bowl MVP / Breakout Player
Yes ladies and gentlemen, the Super Bowl breakout player will be the Falcons Running Back Tevin Coleman. In case you have not been paying attention Coleman is one of the most explosive backs in the league. His speed and elusiveness are amazing. Coleman will also shine in the passing game. The Falcons offensive has been outstanding when it comes to finding the running backs in the passing game. They will line up in the backfield as well as out wide. Coleman will exploit the lack of athleticism in the Patriots linebacker corp. Look for Coleman to post 50+ rushing yards, 100+ receiving yards and 2 Touchdowns.
Super Bowl Pick
Yes indeed. The Beast the Odds Super Bowl Pick is the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons are currently 3 point underdogs against the Patriots. Several are pointing to the lack of big game experience of the Falcons and some have even gone as far to saying Matt Ryan cannot handle the pressure. Check the stats please, in the last 5 playoffs games Ryan has been amazing.
How about this for a stat to drive home the point. The team who scores first in the Super Bowl wins 70% of the time. Matt Ryan and the Falcons have scored a touchdown on the opening drive in 8, yes 8 straight games. Of course you are saying, but what if they don’t get the ball? Belechick is notorious for deferring to get the ball at halftime when he wins the toss. Book it, Coleman TD on the first drive.
